(Picture: SLA)The Singapore Land Authority (SLA) has established new partnerships to enhance skills development and research projects on climate change and urban challenges. The collaborations were announced at the Singapore Geospatial Forum, organised by SLA, during the 9th World Cities Summit held from June 2 to 4 at Suntec Convention Centre in Singapore.One partnership was signed between SLA and the National Land Commission Secretariat of Bhutan, with the aim of supporting Bhutan’s national development by establishing a comprehensive land administration framework. The memorandum of understanding (MOU) will also explore opportunities for Bhutan to develop geospatial capabilities. The signing ceremony was attended by Tshering Gyaltshen Penjor, secretary of NLCS, and Thong Wai Lin, deputy chief executive of SLA.In a separate agreement, SLA and Singapore Management University’s (SMU) College of Integrative Studies (CIS) and Urban Institute (UI) will collaborate on leveraging geospatial data for research projects focused on climate change and urban challenges. This includes a multi-disciplinary research project called Cooling Singapore 2.0, led by the Singapore-based ETH Centre in partnership with SMU, National University of Singapore, Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology, TUMCREATE (established by the Technical University of Munich), and Cambridge University. Cooling Singapore 2.0 aims to develop solutions to address urban heat challenges. The MOU, signed by Professor Elvin Lim, dean of CIS, Associate Professor Orlando Woods, director of UI, Thong Wai Lin, and Sin Lye Chong, assistant chief executive of SLA, will also provide opportunities for students to participate in co-led activities, research projects, and undergraduate and postgraduate programs.These partnerships align with SLA’s goal of expanding global collaborations and strengthening geospatial capabilities to promote social, community, and sustainability outcomes.
